Debit and Credit Card Fraud

As you may have heard through the media, there has been a substantial security breach within a major card processor in the United States. This breach has led to the theft of critical card information including card numbers and expiration dates from many institutions throughout the country. In some cases, the stolen information was used to create counterfeit debit and credit cards and complete fraudulent transactions.

At this time, we have received notification that some of our customer's cards have been compromised. Additional card numbers are being released as they are found. The breach has been contained and there is no evidence that Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) were stolen.

At Waterford Bank, N.A., we take your privacy and account security very seriously. Your trust in us to protect your accounts is of utmost importance. To further safeguard your personal information and accounts, we have decided on the following course of action:

  • Any ATM/debit or credit cards known to have been compromised or attempted in fraudulent transactions are being immediately blocked and reissued.
  • We are temporarily lowering the daily limit on all ATM/debit cards. If this is a problem for you, please call your banking representative.
  • All active ATM/debit cards will be reissued with new numbers. Letters have gone out to those cardholders with instructions concerning the reissuance process. For customers who receive letters, their existing ATM/debit cards will be deactivated on February 19. If you received a letter but have not received your new card by this date, please call us.

Since social security numbers were not compromised, the potential for identity theft is reduced greatly. As a precaution to prevent card fraud, it is good practice for all cardholders to regularly monitor their accounts online and obtain a credit report to look for unusual account openings at least once a year. Let us know immediately if you find any transactions which you did not authorize. If you have any questions at all, please call us at 419-720-3900 (toll-free at 866-707-2871). And, as always, you can contact us with any questions or concerns that you have.
